What is the best AI grant writing tool for UK businesses?
The best AI grant writing tool for a UK business depends on the funder, and most tools topping published rankings are built for US nonprofits rather than UK schemes. ZenGrants is the only one built specifically for Innovate UK and UKRI competitions, at £69 a month billed monthly or £55 billed annually, and the only one storing data in a UK region. Grantify pairs an AI platform with an assigned human expert but publishes no price. FundGenius tracks assessor criteria and word limits and is free to check eligibility. FundRobin covers UK charities at £49 a month, or £39.20 billed annually. Charity Excellence offers UK charities a free AI bid writer. Instrumentl, which appears on almost every list, states it works only with US 501(c)(3) nonprofits. Every headline price in this market is the annual-billed rate, four of the ten tools publish no price at all, and none publishes a credible win rate.
Three things every other list gets wrong
One of the recommended products no longer exists. GrantReady Digital still appears on 2026 rankings and in AI-generated answers to this question. Its domain registration has expired: HTTPS fails and the address now serves a registrar parking page. We checked on 21 September 2026 and there is no product behind it.
The Smart Grant win-rate claims refer to a scheme that is paused. Several vendors lead with their share of Innovate UK Smart Grant winners. Smart Grants closed to new applications on 22 January 2025 and no round has opened since, so those figures describe a competition you cannot currently enter. The advertised price is the annual price. Every subscription tool here shows the discounted annual rate as its headline. ZenGrants is £55 a month on a year upfront and £69 month to month. FundRobin is £39.20 against £49, and excludes VAT. Grantboost displays only the annual rate and does not publish its monthly one at all.

Ordered by how well they fit a UK business or charity, not by price. “Not published” means exactly that: we looked for a pricing page and there was not one.
ZenGrants

Who it is for. UK startups, SMEs, researchers and spinouts applying to Innovate UK or UKRI.
Price. £69/month, or £55/month billed annually (£662/year). Max tier £99/month, or £79/month billed annually (£950/year). No free tier and no free trial — a demo only. The £55 and £79 figures require paying for a year upfront.
What they claim. No win rate published. Cites Innovate UK’s own 2024 figures that “only 46 out of 1,645 applications were funded”.
Your data. The only tool here that states UK data residency: “data stored in europe-west2, London”, and responses generated through the Google Gemini API under enterprise terms that prohibit training on customer data.
Grantify
grantify.ioAI platform plus a human consultant, price on enquiry
Who it is for. UK startups and SMEs, historically focused on Innovate UK Smart Grants. Also runs EU and US versions.
Price. Not published. No pricing page exists on the site. Their own FAQ says only that cost “will vary depending on various factors”. Forum posts quote an upfront fee plus a percentage success fee; we could not verify that and have not repeated the figures.
What they claim. “Over £200M secured in startup funding” on the homepage against “£185M / $220M Secured” on their stats page — their own two pages disagree. Also “In 2024, we won 50% of all Innovate UK funding rounds we supported” and “64% of ALL winners in a recent Smart Grant round used Grantify”.
Your data. None stated. Materials are “stored securely and accessed only by authorised reviewers”.
FundGenius

Price. Free eligibility check; paid tiers not published. No pricing page. No credit card required for the eligibility check.

Your data. None stated. The privacy policy names Cloudflare, Google Analytics and Web3Forms as processors but no AI provider.

Who it is for. Enterprise and public-sector bid teams. Tenders first, grants second. Nothing Innovate UK specific.
Price. Not published, sales-led. No pricing page. A third-party estimate dated 15 September 2026 suggests roughly $30,000 a year on a five-seat annual minimum, explicitly labelled as unverified by the vendor.
What they claim. “241% Increase in Success Rates”, “70% Increase in Drafting Speed”, 300+ enterprise customers.
Your data. No region stated. Runs on AWS with an unusually long certification list including ISO 27001, SOC 2, FedRAMP High and Cyber Essentials Plus.
FundRobin

Who it is for. Charities, nonprofits, universities and social enterprises across the UK, EU and US. UKRI appears in its database but there are no Innovate UK specific features.
Price. £49/month, or £39.20/month billed annually (£470.40/year), excluding VAT. Impact tier £199/month, or £159.20/month billed annually. No free tier. An application-led 30-day trial exists for selected organisations. Drafting is metered: 3 proposal drafts a month on the lower tier.
What they claim. No win rate. States plainly that it “does not guarantee eligibility, compliance or funding success”.
Your data. No region stated. Customer content is “not used to train public AI models”.
Charity Excellence AI bid writer

Price. Free. Genuinely free, but you must register for the platform first. Around 60,000 members.
What they claim. “Nearly half our ratings are 10/10”. No win rate.
Your data. None. The page states directly that it “uses ChatGPT to write your funding bid, so your information is shared with it”, and warns against entering sensitive personal or financial data.

Price. $349/month, or $299/month paid annually upfront. Pre-Award $579/$499 and Full Lifecycle $1,159/$999. 14-day free trial, no card required. No free tier.
What they claim. “$1.1B+ in grants managed” and a “$1.1 million average annual revenue increase” on the homepage, against “an average $1.4M increase” on the pricing page.
Your data. US: “stored and processed in the U.S.”, SOC 2 Type II certified.
GrantReady Digital

Where EchoGrant fits, and where it does not
We are not a subscription. Everything above charges monthly whether or not you are applying for anything, which suits an organisation running a constant pipeline of bids. If you apply for two grants a year, a £662 annual subscription costs more than having both applications reviewed by us.
Our shape is per application: scoring a project against a grant is free with no signup, a Full Assessment of an application you have drafted is £250, and done-for-you writing starts at £2,500 with no success fee. There is no monthly cost and nothing to cancel.

Can AI write my whole Innovate UK application?
It can produce a full draft, and several of these tools do exactly that, but you should not submit one unedited. UKRI has published a policy on generative AI in application preparation and assessment, so read it before you rely on a tool. The practical problem is not the policy but the output: AI writes fluent text that asserts rather than evidences, and assessors score evidence. Anything the tool invents on your behalf, whether a figure, a partner or a standard, is a risk you carry personally when you sign the declaration.
Which AI grant tools work for UK charities rather than businesses?
Charity Excellence offers a free AI bid writer to its 60,000 members, though it states plainly that your information is shared with ChatGPT, so do not paste sensitive data into it. FundRobin covers UK charities and combines discovery with drafting at £49 a month, or £39.20 billed annually excluding VAT, with drafting metered at three proposals a month on that tier. Most of the better-known names, including Instrumentl, Grantboost and Grant Assistant, are built for US nonprofits and their funder databases reflect that.
Why do these tools not publish win rates?
Because nobody can honestly claim one. A win rate depends on which schemes you apply to, how competitive each round is and how good your underlying project is, none of which a writing tool controls. Where success figures do appear they tend to be about the vendor’s human service rather than its software, and some are inconsistent between the vendor’s own pages. Treat any percentage on a grant tool’s homepage as marketing until you can see what it is a percentage of.
Do these prices include VAT and can I pay monthly?
Every headline price in the market is the annual-billed rate, and paying monthly costs more: ZenGrants is £55 a month on an annual plan but £69 month to month, and FundRobin is £39.20 against £49. FundRobin states its prices exclude VAT; most others do not say. Grantboost and Instrumentl price in dollars. Four of the ten tools here publish no price at all, which means comparing them requires contacting each one and waiting.

Where a vendor's own pages disagree with each other, we have said so rather than picking the better number.
